$100 Gas Rebates...

The next great idea, brought to you by politicians. Sure to grab lots of attention, but is it that good of an idea? I'd be happy to receive a $100.00 check in the mail, for me that would equate to almost 10 weeks of normal driving or one road trip, but I'm not convinced the government handout is a good plan.

My first concern is "where is the money coming from?" We all know the federal government gets its money from one place, taxpayers, so which set of taxpayers is going to fund this program? Perhaps it will be funded by taking away tax breaks from the oil companies. Who is going to pay for those higher taxes? Consumers!!!!! (Me, and you) The oil companies will turn right around and pass those higher tax costs onto us, because they're sure not going to take a hit in their profit margin, no business in it's right mind would.

Perhaps consumers could demand more accountability from the oil companies, make them justify the price at the pump, although how that would be accomplished, I have no idea. Any suggestions?

*** Comment by Sarah, but posted by me because typekey was having PMS last night***

My thoughts are to affect the oil companies bottom line by walking, biking, consolidating, taking the bus, etc... but then again, we value time more than money and don't want to be inconvenienced.
