What's a little permanent marker between amigos?

So, I have this little boy next door who has become a friend (or is it amigo) over the past couple of years. I say has become a friend, but only because I have been buying his friendship with lollipops... goldfish crackers... cookies... bubbles... sidewalk chalk, you get the picture. Anyway, a few times he's come over to play, and yesterday was one of those times. My apartment is in no way an appropriate play area for a three year old, so when he comes over I have to be very present with him, and I assure you he has all the energy and curiosity of a healthy three year old boy.

We start with him opening the pan cabinet to get out the jug I use to water my flowers, I put a small amount of water into the jug and he takes it outside and empties it, presumably into one of the pots of gerbera daisys. He returns and I again put a small amount of water into it. This time on his way outside he's sidetracked by the sight of my laptop, and he walks over to my desk and sits in the chair.

With the water jug snuggled in alongside him he taps a few keys on my keyboard, then decides he's thirsty and tries to take a drink out of the water jug. I intercept the jug, assuming there may be some miracle grow residue in the water he's about to drink, and return it to the kitchen. Since I can see he is thristy, I grab a plastic cup and put about an ounce of water into it and bring it back to him at the computer. In the thirty seconds it took me to do that, he discovered a black sharpie type marker on my desk, and was gleefully scribbling all over the screen of my laptop.

I rescued my pen from him, and gave him the cup with water, still not worried about it, because I am standing right there, and will be able to keep him from spilling onto the computer. I had not anticipated spitting the water onto my keyboard though.

Fortunately for me, the computer survived, and non-acetone nail polish remover works quite well in removing black permanent marker from computer screens.

Bloggers with children have an unfair advantage over those of us who do not have children, because even when you're in a bit of a funk, the kids are doing something worth posting. I'll just have to borrow other people's kids to blog about! And paletas ALWAYS come in pairs around here!
