Name the Chicken...

chicken.jpg

Although I thought I'd made it rather clear that I didn't want to inadvertantly become the owner of a bunch of chickens when I bought my house, I found out yesterday the chicken randomly roaming my yard is indeed, mine. Help me name my chicken, submit your best female chicken names in the comments section. (No limit on number of entries, the more the merrier, special consideration will be given to names submitted by small -- or medium sized -- children!)

Grandma Lortz nominates the name "Lucky".

She says when she was two and a half years old and living with her Grandma Grace Wheeler Smith down on the farm in Kentucky she would not put her clothes on in the morning till she heard the hen cluck. Then she would rush around and put her clothes on real fast and zoom out the door to get the egg. Then she would bring the egg inside and her Grandma would fry it for her breakfast.

Grandma Lortz says for you to go out every morning and look for an egg and you will never have to buy them again.

P.S. Be careful when you stick your hand in the nest feeling around for the egg because snakes like to curl up in the nest because it's a nice warm place. And good luck.

Such great names, some others have suggested "Breakfast", "Chickita", "1-800-animal-control", "Ginger" and "Extra Crispy". Keep those names coming!

When I was two and one-half, your Grandma had her own chicken coop in the backyard, so you can believe she knows whereof she speaks! You mentioned the walnut trees, and I thought of a certain chicken salad recipe....

I found this page after trying to find the same thing, I had three chickens called, eggner, eggberta and eggwina. Unfortunately they all turned out to be males!!! Therefore we had to get rid and get some more. I feel bad naming them the same so wanted other options. The only one I've come up with is Henrietta! Can anyone be creative on similar lines?

One of our favorite things to do is pick one of our favorite movies - especially "chick flics" and use names from some of our favorite characters.

We just ordered some new pullets and are going to go with names from Anne of Green Gables. Anne Shirley, Mirilla, Diana, Josie Pye, etc.
