This I Know....

The best place for an 800 pound gorrilla is in the open where I can keep my eye on it and know what it is doing.

Give me the drugs and no one gets hurt....

sick%20girl.jpg

I'm sick of sounding like I've been chain smoking for the past 40 years, so today I turned myself in to my doctor's office. They gave me a form to fill out listing every possible physical symptom a person could complain of. I think checking ten or more symptoms results in a hypochondria diagnosis, but I've not tested that theory. (Nor have I ruled out testing it in the future.) At the top of the paper it asks me to list the reason for today's visit. I wrote "I'm sick and I want drugs". Honesty is the best policy, right, it's best just to officially notify the doctor this is a shake down. He looked me over, checked my vitals with all sorts of interesting instruments and pronounced that I was right, I'm sick. Like the past two weeks weren't a good enough indicator. I got the drugs alright, and all it cost me was the $25.00 copay and a pinky swear to call him immediately if I felt any worse. I'm sure by Monday I'll be back to tearing the place up again.

Me: I wanna go home and go to sleep.
Co-worker: Alone?
M: Yeah, Why would I want someone pushing me off the bed and stealing my blankets?
C: To keep your bed warm.
M: Not if I'm sleeping on the floor with no blankets, you haven't been married very long have you?
C: 43 years.

On Mute....

Due to a cold over the weekend, it appears I may spend the rest of the week with no voice. Even though the cold is past, I can tell it's going, I'm just surprised it gave me enough warning this time to get final shots at my supervisor and co-workers. As I left work last night I issued what I thought may be the last audible words for the week "It will be back, and I WILL make up for lost time". If you knew you were going to be muted what would your last words be?

Google Docs Rocks!

So what do you do when you need to write an impressive and professional looking letter but your word processing capabilities are limited wordpad and notepad?

A month after vacating my apartment I discovered today the money I paid toward last month rent when I moved in may not have been transferred to the new owner when the building was sold nearly four years ago, and my former landlord thinks it's my job to track down the previous owner to get part of that money back. Since I am not one to get stuck doing someone else's job I called his property manager back and told her I found his proposal entirely unacceptable, and explained why I thought he should agree with me. Then I tore my house apart and berated myself for not being more organized with potentially important documents until I located both the lease agreement and receipt which back my position.

Now I'm ready to go to the mattresses, but have very limited word processing abiliti........

wait!
what's that?
It's a bird!
No, it's a plane!
NO!!! It's Google docs and spreadsheets!!!!!!!

Not only can I create an impressive and subtly intimidating letter, I can ask any of my favorite proof readers to pull it up on their computer and tell me how great they think I am, correct my grammer, or offer their own landlord fighting war stories to encourage me. I can also print it from any computer in the free world, without needing to dig a floppy disk out of the piles of boxes still waiting for my undivided attention, since I have been not only disorganized but also too lazy to get a new ink cartridge for my printer.

And thanks to my devilishly intelligent computer geek brother who spent two hours on the phone with me tonight getting my wireless up and running, I can do it all while lounging on the couch in my pajamas.

Did I miss a memo?

Is this national annoy anna day or something? First of all the mail carrier did not come. My mail service out here has never been later than 12:30 pm, even earlier on days when I have something important to go out and assume I have that much time to get it in the box. Not today, when I'm hoping my lost glasses will arrive in time for me to go to work. It's not that it was just late, there was no mail service at all, all my outgoing mail is still sitting in the box patiently waiting with the flag up. January 2nd was not listed as a holiday closing day on USPS.com, what's up?

Then, I pull up my incredibly pedestrian dial-up internet to see what's going on in the world, and what has CNN.com got on their front page? The scandalous bootleg picture of Saddam Hussein with noose around his neck. The same picture which I chose NOT to view when they offered it through a text link a day or so ago. I don't take offense often, but seriously, was it necessary to force this image on me?
