The post that wasn't...

This was going to be a terrific girl power post about how I changed a flat tire all by myself this weekend, but alas it was not meant to be.

I still think I could have done it had I been toting around a four foot piece of pipe for the express use of breaking lug nuts in case of emergency. I had the car jacked up, the wheels chocked with rocks scavanged from the edge of the parking lot I pulled into when the car started vibrating in the most frightening manner. I was all proud of myself as I slid the tire iron over the first lug nut, only to find the thing was more stubborn than me.

But my survival skills are strong, and I was lucky enough to locate someone who knew someone else who just happened to be close to where I was stranded. Soon after two angels in disguise arrived, having left the comfort of their homes where they were listening to Tennessee loose soundly to I don't remember who. One of the angels happened to be a retired service station attendant, who declared in 20 years of changing tires he'd never seen lug nuts so tight. He left and returned a few minutes later with a pipe he affectionately referred to as "The Persuader". A few minutes later, spare tire installed and blown out tire stowed in the trunk I was on my way to the tire shop for a new one. In a stroke of genius I decided to get the oil changed at the same time, and lucky for me I thought of it because the car that hadn't burned a drop of oil in the three years I'd owned it turned out to be very very very extreemely low on oil.

So instead of it not being a post on how I changed a tire all by myself it is the post on how I'm not suddenly in the market for a car.
