I think I should throw fits more often....

I went to Staples yesterday.
I love Staples, just being there makes me happy, almost as happy as when I'm in Hobby Lobby. But I was not happy yesterday.
There is a pen I like, they used to sell them individually at the checkouts. After I fell in love with them they stopped carrying them individually and started carrying them in multi-packs. Each pack had 4 pens; red, green, blue and black. I only wanted the red one, but I had to buy the other three to get it. The last time I went in the 4 pen multi-pack had been replaced with a mega-multi-pack where I had to buy 18 pens to get one red pen.
Yesterday I decided I was not going to buy 17 pens I don't need in order to get the one I wanted, so I settled on another type of pen which comes in a pack of 5, 4 pens I did not want and one that I did. I wandered off into another aisle, still feeling cranky over having to settle and an unwitting sales associate asked me "Are you finding everything ok?" Usually I tell them "yes" but since I was feeling cranky I gave him my crabbiest "NO!"
He asked what I was looking for and I grumbled that I wanted a certain pen, but didn't want to have to buy 200 other pens just to get the one I want. We walked back to the pen aisle where he offered me every other type of pen in just red, but not the type of ink I wanted. Then he uttered the magic words "I might be able to order something". "Can you order THAT pen in just red?" I asked. "Sure".
We walked to the computer where he typed in the exact pen I wanted, and ordered 12 of them in just red. How much did this cost me? Less than the multi-pack of pens I didn't want.

You should take this skill to Washington, but, oh, what you would have to sacrifice! Nevermind....

I'm not sure that 12 pens would cover all the red ink Washington is going to need.
